Jackson Pollock was an abstract expressionist artist. The abstract expressionists were a group of young New York artists. They made abstract paintings, meaning they didn't look like anything. The artists tried to show emotions instead, like happiness or anger, in the expressive marks that they made in their drawings, paintings and sculptures.
Pollock’s technique embodied the autonomous attitude of Abstract Expressionism. His art displayed the political culture of Abstract Expressionism through the creation of art as a unifying factor of humanity, the use of negation to make a personal statement, and the belief that art was its own referent.
Pollock’s work and example had enormous influence on them and on many subsequent art movements in the United States. He is one of the first American painters to be recognized during his lifetime and after as a peer of 20th-century European masters of modern art.
Jackson Pollock was an original and revolutionary creative form. It introduced new ways of protesting existing political and social contexts to rediscover the meaning to be human.
